Gap: The Raveonettes, "Black/White"

The Raveonettes video was very cool. For their "Sound of Color" campaign, Gap, Inc. hired four bands to write original songs about an assigned color, then handed those songs over to up and coming directors to make music videos.

The Raveonettes got “black and white,” and their resulting song was handed to Chris Do of Blind. He wanted to use shadow puppets to play on the black and white theme, so he called in my theater company, Rogue Artists Ensemble. In just three days, Sean, Kerry, Joyce, and I built the rabbit, owl, and wolf puppets you see in the video. Then we went over to Blind’s studio in Santa Monica and spent a day filming against a translucent screen to get that eerie, faded effect. We traded puppets all day, but I can tell you that jumping rabbit is all me.

Oh, and I named them: Wolf Blitzer, Owlfred Hitchcock, and George Hareison. It was a long day.
